Every month or so, I will deactivate my Facebook for a while just for a break, etc. Now I'm contemplating completely deleting it. Big step for an 18 year old girl who's generation has been known to spend around 5 hours a day on it (and that's the minimum)! But I've realised how useless it is and how it's such a vehicle for bad situations. People say things on the internet that they would never say in real life and it's sort of scary. Also, it's easy to get in from a night out when you're a little bit (or very) drunk, and see your laptop on your bed and go straight on Facebook, writing wall posts/inbox's is never a good idea when you're intoxicated! I'm not a pro with all this new technology, I can barely work an iPod/iPhone, touchscreens are definitely NOT my forte and my BlackBerry is about as 'gadgety' as it gets for me.
My plan is to leave Facebook for a few days, see how I get on with out it and then delete it. I'll make a new one before I go to university. It's even annoying me how worked up I'm getting over a simple social networking site but you see, that's the problem! Social networking sites have now become part of most teenagers lives. It's rare that you'll find a child/teenager/young adult who doesn't have a Facebook account and who doesn't use it for ridiculously long lengths of time a day. It's ruining all communication. I love writing letters and making phone calls, but Facebook has made it easy to avoid real socialising and instead, discuss everything, and ANYONE, over the internet. It's easy to say things that you'd be usually cautious of talking about when you're not face to face with somebody, it's easy to hurt somebody's feelings and feel no guilt when you can't actually see their face or hear their voice. The events creator on Facebook is another thing that really gets on my nerves. Long gone are the days when you'd search the shops for fun and pretty invitations, picking out all your closest friends for invites to make your birthday party or general event full of all the people you genuinely love and not just everybody on your so called friends list. I get slightly offended when I'm invited to a party on Facebook and I see people are invited who the host has never even spoken to. I'd much prefer a hand written invitation or even a text, anything other than a collective internet invitation with no meaning.
I also hate the photo's on Facebook. If I don't have it and a bad photo of me gets put up; it won't matter. Nobody can tag me and nobody will poke fun out of me when I'm not even on Facebook (probably because they'll forget I exist). In fact, I doubt that anybody would even upload a photo of somebody who they can't tag or take the mick out of which can only be a good thing. I think I want to be more private, that's the whole problem. I don't want my life broadcasted over the internet and with Facebook, it's so tempting and easy to do so. I also don't want to read about other peoples lives, whether it's their dogs birthday, how many people were in the que at Tesco, how badly their roots need doing, etc; I REALLY DON'T CARE! Letting your friends know how you're doing and what you're up to is one thing but telling a load of strangers about how many boys you 'pulled' at the club last night or how your boyfriend has cheated on you with an unattractive female is drastic, there's no need. Bring the back the days of normality, when socialising with friends actually meant seeing them in person and having a good time, not sitting on the laptop bitching about the same person everyday and organising events that will probably never come to anything and if they do, will be full of idiots who are only there for the free alcohol and a chance to leave the house...but they'll probably still check Facebook on their smartphone while they're at it!
Beauty Reviews and Rants
Tuesday, 2 August 2011
My two perfumes have just come in the post.
The first one was Viktor & Rolf-Flowerbomb, one of my all time favourites that I probably don't need to talk about, nobody can miss the distinctive, candy-like smell of it!
But, my second perfume was Fan di FENDI, by Fendi of course. Now I can't afford a Fendi handbag or Fendi sunglasses but I can't deny myself another addition to my extensive perfume collection.
I've only had it for an hour so obviously it's not ready for a review but I will definitely be finding time to talk about it when I've had my wear out of it!

St Moriz VS St Tropez
Since St Moriz became well known around 2008, people have suggested that it's a 'rival' to St Tropez. I strongly disagree. After using St Moriz for around 6 months in 2008/2009, I have been put off for life. At first, it was relatively fine, I even (for around 10 minutes) considered it on a par with my beloved St Tropez but after a while it began to show an increasing number of flaws.
1) Even when the whole body has been moisturised and exfoliated, unattractive patches are found in the most unlikely of places, for example, the inside of your elbows and on the neckline.
2) The spray bottle is extremely unreliable, it often dries before there is time to rub it in (rubbing it in is definitely necessary as it simply drips and dries if left).
3) The mousse is extremely dark at first and is incredibly hard to wash off your hands, I do not recommend putting this fake tan on your hands, I'd rather opt for something like Garnier or Dove tanning moisturiser for such delicate and visible places.
4) It IS orange. Regardless of how many people tell you it's deep brown or gives a 'sun-kissed glow', it's most definitely a nasty shade of orange. You can just tell it's a cheap fake tan.
I decided to write this review because I'm sick of seeing people raving about it all the time when it's been out for so long and is actually a bad self tanner. People compare the ingredients of St Moriz to St Tropez and claim that there is no difference, but there is a definitely a difference in the quality of the product. I understand that for some people, St Moriz may work perfectly well for them and be exactly what they want from their self tanner and that's great; it's cheap and may well be a great tanning product for some individuals. However, it hasn't been for me and personally, I'll be sticking to Garnier sun-kissed gradual tan and St Tropez for those special occassions. St Moriz just doesn't cut it for me. Sorry to all it's devoted fans out there!
Ojon Intensive Repair Treatment
I use this product around once a month. as at £35.00 it's hardly a hair product that can be used daily. The texture of it at first isn't oily, it's literally solid. I rub it into my hands to make it oily and just run it through my hair (I have abandoned the brush that comes with it). It smells a bit like tobacco mixed with mud, it's very odd but not too unpleasant. This product really impresses me, more than any other treatment has done before and I've tried my fair share! It's a shame that it's so dear but it's understandable as it is one of the best in the business.
Ojon recommend that you leave it on for around 20/30 minutes yet I've always left mine on overnight and washed my hair the next morning (the regular shampoo and conditioner routine). No other products, such as straightening balm, serum, etc, are necessary after using this oil as your hair is restored, feels and appears healthier and also tames it which is good for those with frizzy/curly hair like my own. I used this oil when my hair was long and it was always kept shiny and in prime condition, I still use it now my hair is short and it still does the same job. One pot lasts me around 6 months which is quite decent considering how good it is. I strongly recommend it to anyone willing to spend that much money on a hair product, however for those who are apprehensive about the expenditure then I definitely suggest giving 'Inecto Pure Coconut Oil' a try, it can be found on Amazon for £2.40 but is probably the same price, or maybe even cheaper in shops such as Home Bargains or Wilkinsons. It's obviously not going to be AS effective as Ojon but for a first timer and money saver, it probably won't be that much different and it's surely worth a go!
Tigi Bed Head Superstar shampoo and conditioner.
Although not a new product, I have decided to dedicate my first (review) post to my usual hair saviours, Bed Head. I have been using Tigi products since around 2004 when I was 12/13 years old and have never touched another brand in the same way.
The Superstar range is great for my hair type. It's curly but not so volumised and often goes through stages of near death experiences. These shampoos and conditioners are definite pick me ups. The conditioner impresses me the most. It leaves my hair feeling clean and healthy whilst also looking volumised and big in all the right ways. It's one of those amazing products that maintains the fullness of hair (for those lucky people who have it naturally) and also creates volume for those who unfortunately aren't blessed with such benefit. A product that I will always recommend!
